Social Media Guidelines & Policy

Other resources

A lot of our outreach happens on social media. Social media can be a great tool to promote our work if used properly.

The Global Tree Initiative (GTI)’s international office (IO) has its social media platforms on Instagram and Facebook. Regional groups are encouraged to create and manage separate pages where they can share their local work.

Before obtaining a social media page for your local GTI group, read the guidelines below. If you already manage a social media page for your local GTI group, read the text below and make sure your page follows the same guidelines.

Creating a social media page

To obtain a social media page for a local GTI group, one must be formally affiliated with GTI. You can read the whole process here.

Furthermore, the GTI Management Team must approve the establishment of the new affiliate group and the corresponding social media page. This means that, if an individual wishes to have / manage a social media page on behalf of GTI, they must always communicate this intention to GTI’s IO first.

Managing a social media page

The regional coordinator of a given local group must be aware of the group’s social media page and the content that is shared.

Once active and running, the social media page must be closely managed and regularly used. The page must not be abandoned without prior notice.

The team in charge of an affiliate group’s social media page must ensure that the page portrays GTI correctly by respecting GTI’s visual identity and posting only relevant, trustworthy content.

Moreover, the team in charge of an affiliate group’s social media page must keep an eye on GTI’s main page, and share that page’s content when applicable.

We strongly suggest the following:

  1. Tags and mentions should be used according to the discretion of those managing the page. The official GTI tag is #plantgrowsave and should be added to all posts.

  2. The official GTI page should always be tagged in all posts made: @globaltreeinitiative

This policy outlines the expectations for volunteers who use social media to support UCL Incorporated’s mission, including its subsidiary organizations, Global Tree Initiative and HAK retreats, to promote events, raise awareness, and fundraise online.

This applies to all volunteers using personal or organizational accounts to communicate about or on behalf of UCL Incorporated.

You are required to read, understand, and sign this agreement below. Then, forward the signed copy to the GTI Project Coordinator, who is in charge of social media. Right now, this will be Bengu: bengu@plantgrowsave.org
